The Hickory Hills Police Department has been chosen as the First place winner in their respective category for the 2006 National Law Enforcement Challenge Program. The Law Enforcement Challenge is a national competition between similar size and types of police agencies that provide safety programs combining officer training, public information and enforcement activities designed to reduce traffic crashes and injuries. It recognizes and rewards the best overall traffic safety programs in the United States. The areas of concentration include efforts to enforce laws and educate the public about occupant protection, impaired driving, and speeding. The judges are independent members of the law enforcement community, public safety, and corporate partners who have demonstrated advance knowledge of highway safety initiatives. The International Association of Chiefs of Police will recognize the department’s efforts at an award ceremony at the IACP’s 114th Annual Conference being held in New Orleans Louisiana this October.

This is a very prestigious award which places the department in the national spot light, said Police Chief Alan Vodicka. The award speaks volumes as to the dedication and commitment of our Traffic Division Officers supported by officers assigned to the Patrol Division toward improving the overall safety of our community. Being chosen as the winner brings a great deal of positive attention to our department and enhances our reputation as a department which is “tough on crime” yet prioritizes traffic safety. I look forward to receiving this award on behalf of the hard working professional men and women of the Hickory Hills Police Department.
